Shapes in Art

Today we looked at how shapes have been used by famous artists in their art pieces. We explored some of the works of Piet Mondrian. Another artist who who used shapes in his art was Wassily Kandinsky. Kandinsky was born on December 16th 1866 in Russia. Music helped him create his paintings. He especially loved opera. He produced some very abstract art work. Kandinsky used lots of colour and and shapes in his work. Look at the pictures below to see some of his art pieces. Then, pick one piece and post a comment to this post describing:
  1. the shapes you can see in the picture
  2. the words you would use to describe the piece
  3. the reason why you chose this picture
Don't forget to include the name of the picture you have chose in your post.

3D Shapes

Today we started learning about the 3D Shapes. We learned that all 3D shapes have 3 mearurements to describe them; height, length and width. We also learned that 3D shapes have faces, vertices and edges. We explored each of these properties for the followow 3D shapes and then we found real life examples in the classroom of some of the 3D shapes. See some of the items we found below.

A ball is an example of a sphere.

These are examples of cylinders.

Our raffle box is a cuboid.

The globe is a sphere.

A ribix CUBE!

Your task tonight is to find examples of the following 3D shapes at home:

Post a comment here to let us know what you find!
