Shapes in Art

Today we looked at how shapes have been used by famous artists in their art pieces. We explored some of the works of Piet Mondrian. Another artist who who used shapes in his art was Wassily Kandinsky. Kandinsky was born on December 16th 1866 in Russia. Music helped him create his paintings. He especially loved opera. He produced some very abstract art work. Kandinsky used lots of colour and and shapes in his work. Look at the pictures below to see some of his art pieces. Then, pick one piece and post a comment to this post describing:
  1. the shapes you can see in the picture
  2. the words you would use to describe the piece

  1. The picture I have chosen is Composition VIII.
In the picture I can see circles, semi-circles, triangles, squares and rectangles. Some words I would use to describe this picture are 'free', 'floating in space' and 'angular'. I chose this piece because I like the way the artist has used lots of shapes and straight lines in the piece. Kandinsky liked listening to music and I think you can almost hear the music he is listening to just by looking at the picture. I really like Kandinsky's pictures
